PlanetLab
resources available to U of M researchers The Digital Technology
Center has joined PlanetLab so that University of Minnesota researchers
can have access to these resources. Researchers in the areas of distributed
computing, networking, and other areas may find these resources of interest.
PlanetLab allows experimentation of new technologies on a planet-wide scale
and under real-world conditions. It currently consists of 462 nodes at 209
sites around the world.
"PlanetLab is an open, globally distributed platform for developing,
deploying and accessing planetaryscale network services. PlanetLabs goal
is to support both short-term experiments and continuously-running network
services, and ultimately to develop and demonstrate a new set of network
services at planetary scale. The PlanetLab Consortium is established to
support and enhance the PlanetLab platform in meeting these goals. It is
responsible for overseeing the long-term growth of PlanetLab's hardware
infrastructure; designing and evolving its software architecture; providing
day-to-day operational support; and defining policies that govern its
appropriate use."
